Meet Norma Hatfield
Some people know kinship care because they've advocated for children and families.
Others know it because they have lived it.
I've experienced it from both sides.
As a grandmother raising grandchildren, I have lived the joys, heartaches, and daily realities of kinship care. I understand what it means to navigate schools, healthcare, the child welfare system, courtrooms, and the countless decisions that come with raising children you never expected to parent.
Professionally, I served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Executive Director, advocated for children and families, and worked alongside legislators, and many other child welfare professionals. The kinship needs are great, and the challenges are complex.
I've traveled across Kentucky and connected with thousands of caregivers whose stories are different, yet remarkably alike in their courage, sacrifice, and love.
I've looked into the eyes of caregivers during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. I've also looked into the eyes of children whose futures depended on the adults who stepped forward to love, protect, and care for them. Those moments are why this work matters. They are why I believe we can do better. Children deserve better. And the families who step forward to care for them deserve better, too.
Families don't simply need "cookie-cutter" services.
They need practical support that fits their lives.
They need to be understood.
They need to be heard.
They need a voice.
For many years, God placed this work on my heart. Over time, that calling became The Kinship Voice™—a place where real stories are shared with compassion, practical resources are offered with purpose, and conversations encourage caregivers, strengthen families, and inspire meaningful change for children.
